Kumarakom Tours Online

Aaron Manuel (Italy) – We are scheduling for a visit to Kumarakom for 3 nights post Kovalam Kerala visit in coming January 2015. Please advice on the following i.e. where to stay houseboat or resort facing bit budget constrain.

Shobhit Khurana – Kumarakom is famous for houseboats and backwaters so would be better if you plan to stay in the houseboat itself. There are houseboats available for various budgets for overnight stay so little research on that aspect can surely help you find one suitable. Also keep second option for accommodation lake side resorts in which you can get suitable deal for a room or you can mix up the two like for example one night in houseboat and other 2 in lake side resort that will get you experience of the both. Some places you shouldn’t miss when in Kumarakom are bird sanctuary, bay drift museum & aruvikuzhy waterfalls etc.

Nivedita (Singapore) – Which is the nearest airport to Kumarakom and what is the overall travel time to reach there? Also which month(s) are best to visit? Thanks

Shobhit Khurana – Cochin International Airport situated at Nedumbassery, Kochi is the nearest which is around 90 KMs from Kumarakom that takes around 2 hours to commute. Though in Kerala every season or month is equally suitable to visit as it brings pleasant changes in its scenic beauty yet you can choose travelling days between months of September to February.

Pankaj Kushwaha (Mumbai) – I am doing arrangements for our honeymoon in God’s own country, in coming Nov. I have heard u can go to Kumarakom and experience the houseboats there and then pick one for a day cruise, it can be done in Alleppey so which one do you suggest Kumarakom or Alleppey? Is it possible to go to fort Kochi from Kumarkom on a day trip? How long does it take

Shobhit Khurana – Both Alleppey and Kumarakom are equally beautiful so doesn’t make much of a difference which one you choose, choose one this time another on your first anniversary of marriage 🙂 if you choose Kumarakom I suggest you to take a cruise on houseboat, the better route would be Kumarakom to Thottappally which is full of mesmerizing views and enormous natural beauty all around backwaters. From Thottappally you can visit Fort Kochi which is very near and take back road route to Kumarakom as per your convenience. If you require any further assistance in finalizing your Kerala Honeymoon Travel Itinerary, you may send a detailed query through our contact form on our website or on my email ID – or get in touch with us directly on our telephone numbers (+91) 9899095777, (+91) 9810483201, we at Kerala Tours Online shall be happy to assist you.

Chris White (NY) – What would you suggest car or houseboat for excursing Kumarakom? We are visiting Kerala for the first time and we will be spending 3 days there in Kumarakom.

Shobhit Khurana – Excursion through water ways would be most suggested, reason being that the land of Kumarakom is around 60% water hence the beauty of the place around the same. You can book houseboat or other boats for day trip or overnight stay as well while floating across various canals including backwaters in Kumarakom. While doing the same you can enjoy cooking the freshly catch fish on the houseboat with the local traditional alcoholic drink ‘Toddy’. Car is not at all suggested for the purpose of sightseeing if you want you may hire bicycles which are available here on nominal per day rent or best would be to take a stroll to the nearby villages etc.

Manik (Goa) – We shall be travelling to Kerala next month to Kottayam. From there we wish to go to Kumarakom please suggest what would be the best commuting option.

Shobhit Khurana – This distance from Kottayam to Kumarakom is hardly 14-15 KMs which can be covered by car or bus within approximately 30 minutes only. Baker junction in Kottayam where you will find taxis but don’t forget to negotiate on pricing (rates will be around INR 400) also Bus service is very good between two places so it won’t be much of an issue to travel. Also in case you have already booked a resort in Kumarakom you can also ask them to arrange your travel from Kottayam.

Chrissie Main (Boston, USA) – Can you guide me what all to do in Kumarakom. Our plans to visit in February spending 3 nights there in a resort and wish to take day cruise on houseboat. Please advise where we can book or buy houseboat tickets?

Shobhit Khurana – Kumarakom is a peaceful place, here people come to relax and rejuvenate themselves. Hence as you said you can take houseboat day cruise have local cuisine lunch on the boat itself floating in the Vembanad Lake which is full of natural beauty and mesmerizing surroundings. These houseboats can be easily booked via your resorts, travel agents, directly speaking to houseboat owners or through some online houseboat websites etc. rates will vary accordingly. You can watch kalari payattu (Kerala’s martial art) demonstration, Kathakali and other musical programmes in the nearby theatre or cultural place. Take stroll in the green surrounding and if you have a hobby of bird watching you can fulfil that in the nearby fields and groves. All in all just relax in the serenity of the environment of Kumarakom, take a dip in the resort’s swimming pool, eat Kerala local food and alcoholic beverage ‘Toddy’ and have a good lazy time. If you require any further assistance in finalizing your Kumarakom Travel Itinerary, you may send a detailed query through our contact form on our website or on my email ID – or get in touch with us directly on our telephone numbers (+91) 9899095777, (+91) 9810483201, we at Kerala Tours Online shall be happy to assist you.

Satish Chugh (Amritsar, India) – I am going to Kumarakom in September with my friends, could you please refer some good restaurants there?

Shobhit Khurana – As you haven’t mentioned the cuisine or budget so here is the list of restaurants as per cost per meal (almost all are multi-cuisine restaurants serving local food as well). Some of the best budget restaurants are Tharavadu and Kudumbashri, medium ranged restaurants include Lakesong, Cocobay, EttuKettu and Grannery and the finest ones Vivanta (Taj Group), Coconut Lagoon, Zuri and Kumarakom Lake Resort etc.

Sakshi Mittal (Germany) – Me and my husband are travelling to Kerala, we have plans for residing in houseboat either in Alleppey or Kumarakom. Are there any tips for hiring or travelling on houseboat which you could possibly suggest? Many Thanks

Shobhit Khurana – You can surf through my earlier articles in Alleppey and Kumarakom categories. I am sure you would definitely get lot of information in the same regard. Importantly I just want to raise one concern which people or tourist do unknowingly that never make a plan for houseboat cruise or arrive for houseboat trip anytime after 12-1 PM. As mostly all houseboat start their journey or trip on or before 12 noon and goes till 5.30 PM hence if you would come around 2-3 PM then you will get very little time to enjoy the mesmerizing beauty of the backwaters. Also if possible plan at least an overnight or couple of night stay on the houseboat to enjoy the serenity and tranquillity of the backwaters of Kerala to the fullest.
